Sending Media for Editing

Hand raw real estate photos to a team member or an outside editor — Spatiko emails them the folder links, your instructions, and a due date, then you deliver.

Last updated

Most shoots get edited before they reach the client. In Spatiko, editing means handing an order’s raw files to a human — a teammate or an outside editor — who does the work and drops the finished files back for you to deliver. Spatiko doesn’t edit photos for you; it moves the files, the instructions, and the deadline to whoever’s doing the work.

Working out what deadline to set? Real estate photography turnaround time covers what to promise clients and how the editing handoff fits into it.

How editing fits before delivery

Editing sits between the shoot and the gallery. You send an order’s raw media out, your editor returns the finished files, and then you publish them. If your catalog includes add-on services like virtual staging or twilight conversion, those are jobs you or your editor fulfill by hand — see services and pricing for how add-ons live in your catalog.

Your list of editors

You keep a saved list of editors, so you’re not retyping details every time. Each editor is one of two kinds:

  • A team member — someone on your team, linked by their account.
  • An external editor — reached by email, no account needed.

Every editor has a name, an email (or the linked team member), an optional description, and standing default instructions — notes that get appended to every request you send them, like “match our usual white balance” or “keep vertical lines straight.” You can mark one editor as your default so they’re preselected when you send.

Your saved editors — team members and external contacts side by side, each with its Default badge, specialty, and a preview of its standing instructions.

How a request works

Sending an edit request emails your editor everything they need to start:

  • A share link to the raw source folder — the order’s 01-Raw folder, or the order folder itself if there’s no Raw subfolder.
  • A delivery folder to drop the finished files into — the order’s 02-Delivery folder.
  • The property address, order number, shoot date, file count, and a due date.
  • A scope label, your per-request instructions and comments, and the editor’s standing instructions.

You can scope a request to a single subfolder — just the video files, for example — instead of the whole order. Owners and admins on your team are copied on the email so everyone knows what went out.

Editors work straight from those folder links. There’s no editor login or portal — they pull the raw files and drop finished ones back into the delivery folder. From there you bring the files onto the order (automatically with Dropbox) and send the delivery.

An open editing request awaiting edits, and the Request editing dialog: pick the editor, the files to send, where finished work comes back to, and your preferences.

Revisions and status

Each request carries a simple status: sent → received → completed, or cancelled. If something needs another pass, send a revision request that references the original, so the history stays clear.

If the round of changes is on a video, don’t collect the notes by email — send the cut for client video review with Frame.io and your agent leaves timestamped comments on one link, no account needed.

If the editor’s email fails to send, Spatiko rolls the whole request back — nothing goes out half-sent.

A revision request still with the editor, shown above the completed original round it references — status, round number, and the Revision label keep the history clear.

You’ll need cloud storage connected

Edit requests run over your cloud storage, so the order needs its cloud folder in place: connect Dropbox or Google Drive and make sure the order has been synced. Without a connected folder there’s no raw link to share and nowhere for finished files to land. See cloud storage sync to set it up.

Frequently asked questions

Does my outside editor need a Spatiko login?

No. External editors are reached by email and there's no editor login or portal to manage. They work straight from the folder links — pulling the raw files and dropping finished ones back into the order's delivery folder.

Does Spatiko edit my photos for me?

No. Editing in Spatiko means handing an order's raw files to a human — a teammate or an outside editor — who does the work and returns the finished files. Spatiko moves the files, the instructions, and the deadline; add-ons like virtual staging or twilight conversion are jobs you or your editor fulfill by hand.

Can I send just the video files instead of the whole shoot?

Yes. You can scope a request to a single subfolder rather than the whole order, so an editor who only handles video gets only what they need. Owners and admins on your team are copied on the email either way.

What happens if the email to my editor fails to send?

Spatiko rolls the whole request back, so nothing goes out half-sent. You won't end up with an open request that your editor never heard about.
